So now it’s a rwd- based slow, heavy, dull-mobile?
That’ s g ood... I guess.

Why would they say that? It’s been out there for a while, hasn’t it?

It’s been a rumor for a while. I shall not reveal names.

WWhy are they showing pictures of a Highlander in an Explorer article?

The sight of an ST trim for an explorer makes me want to vomit...
It isn’t a spectacular car in the overall timeline of cars, but for the here and now, for the price, there is something magical about the FoST being a little snot rocket compact in a world of beige crossovers and camrys.
I honestly struggle with how i’ll feel if the Explorer/Edge ST end up being “Good”.

But this is more of a sports car than a FiST/FoST/...EdST, because it’s RWD.

Good! Glad to see it- and not surprising considering we already knew the Aviator was going that route too.

Please say that out loud at the next car meet you attend. Let me know how that goes over. I need to know. For science.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t call anyone stupid for saying that, but I am pretty surprised Ford went that way. Explorer buyers aren’t going to care about FWD vs. RWD (and if they do, I suspect they’d prefer the better traction of a FWD Explorer). You can argue that Ford is trying to grow the range of customers, but with the Bronco and maybe the Everest showing up, you’d expect people wanting to go RWD would go there. The only way this makes sense to me is if all three (along with the R anger) are sharing a platform and that commonality makes the added cost of RWD worthwhile.

We have learned nothing from the Saleen Explorer...or it was two decades too early.

I’d be very surprised if at least the V6 wasn't faster.

I suspected this a year ago, doing some work for an oem prepping preproduction carpets. Not that the platform's tunnel was much different in fwd years previous, but the tunnel design was either strongly indicative or crying out for that to be a thing. So tall. Pretendous.

Everything that is RWD is a sports car, don tchya know?

It’s sharing the CD6 platform with the Aviator and (rumored) the next-gen Mustang.
...of course, CD6 allegedly supports FWD variants, too. (Which isn’t outside the realm of plausibility for a Ford platform to support both FWD and RWD/AWD, the 3rd and 4th-gen Transits have been available in both FWD and RWD/AWD variants in the same model .)

CD6 is a modular platform which can support longitudinal and transverse powertrains with FWD/AWD/RWD.

are the opinions of a handful of 14-22 year old guys important?
![]() 01/10/2019 at 01:45 |

Eh, about as important as the opinions of the 35-65 year old guys in lawn chairs
![]() 01/10/2019 at 06:03 |

Except the 35-65 year old people are the ones actually buying new vehicles.

I've bought two brand new vehicles and I’m not even 30 yet. And I can tell you right now plenty of people in their 20s are doing the same. So I have to say that from my experience that statement isn’t correct.

I don’t know, just an assumption based on the current quality of Jalopnik comments
